Unlikely Beauty

This exhibition comprises my early smartphone photography, including portraits, street, and landscape photos that document my hometown, a small town in Nigeria, called Gauraka (also known as G-Town). The show will be exhibited at the Taube Museum of Art, located on Main Street, downtown Minot. The exhibition is free and open to the public for viewing from September 9 to October 9,  2025.  The opening reception will be held on September 12th from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm with artist remarks at 6:00 pm. This work goes beyond capturing the physical appearance of this town to capturing the true essence of the town as my bond with it grew.

“Can a place be both familiar and foreign?” Asks Kubsam, whose work invites viewers to rediscover the overlooked beauty in their surroundings. This work is also a response to the question: How do we experience the true beauty of a place? Kubsam presents a cohesive series of photographic prints, some in color (30) and others in monochrome (15), that reveal beauty in the ordinary of G-town.
