Empty Spaces

I find myself revisiting these "empty spaces" and trying to photograph them as though they were alive. What makes a place/space empty? Is it just because it's void of people? Are there other qualities that make a place feel alive even without any humans in it at that particular time? I don't have answers to these questions, which is why I keep searching with a curious mind and a camera.
